Purpose:
To help players prepare for attacking and blocking scenarios that are close to the net
What You Need:
- Divide your players into two lines
- One line of Attackers
- One line of Blockers
- One coach will be near the net will balls
How It Works:
- The coach will toss the ball into the air, placing it very close to the net
- The first Attacker will react and will need to decide if they need to hit, tip, or make a defensive play
- At the same time, the first Blocker will reposition and need to decide whether to block, or make an offensive play
- The players can rotate within their line since the ball can be tossed on either side of the net
- Make sure each player gets the chance to complete this drill at least 3-5 times
Results & Tips:
- Sometimes in games the ball is set tight to the net which can create difficult or uncertain situations; Blockers and attackers need to be able to get up and make a play on the ball despite the closeness to the net
- This will instill more confidence in your players and will help them be even more prepared for real game situations
